Gaspard Pauwels

 Cinematographer / Photographer

I'm born and raised in Belgium, Brussels. I am passionate about nature and wildlife since childhood.

I started photographing ants when I was a teenager. At the age of 20, I went to the IAD film school in Belgium. I finish in 2019.

I am enamored by Southeast Asia where I travel to often, and a large part of my photographic work can be found there.

I capture emotions and moments of life through compositions where man coexists with his environment in harmony. The gaze of the other and human expression in its entirety are at the heart of my research.

I work as a director of photography, in documentary and in fiction. You will find here some of my cinematographic and photographic works.

I like to work in black and white which inspires me and helps me pin down a certain loneliness and melancholy in the places where the subjects move.

I like to work with deep blacks and strong, marked shadows. I enjoy capturing stolen glances, in order to find hidden emotions on faces.

I like to watch these bodies move, play with perspectives and the places in which they move.
